e taha wairua mauri ora

e taha wairua mauri ora, which is a Maori phrase that loosely translates to English as a person who is of a spiritual kind; more accurately it carries a meaning and a sentiment that suggests the idea of those who are gripped by the being of a human spirit --- a human being.

Superiority Complex

The Atlantic | November 2002 | Superiority Complex | Brooks : ...We have democratized elitism in this country. Now everybody can be a snob...you can construct your own multimedia community, in which every magazine you read, every cable show you watch, every radio station you listen to, reaffirms your values and reinforces the sense of your own rightness. it is possible, maybe even inevitable, that you will slide into a solipsism that allows you precious little contact with people totally unlike yourself. but in your enclosed sphere you will feel very important... Point of view...

Good News India: Site diary. ...Nearby I came upon 3 young boys -- all under ten-- racing each other on bicycles. Obvious truants! When I passed them one of them decided to race my car! I let the race go on for a while. The boy could barley reach the pedals but he was furiously cycling away. When I saw he was tiring, I said, "You are really fast." He retorted in a flash: "You call this fast? This is nothing! I didn't have the money to pump air into the tyres. If I had, you can't touch me!"
For me that little boy pedalling away cheerfully sums up what the other India is doing -- and his comment, what it will...

Upanishads

An introduction to the Upanishads : The word "Upanishad" consists of three words - "Upa" means "near", "ni" means "down" and "shad" means "be seated".

Aru Padai Veedu Tour

It is every Murugan devotee's dream. At least once in a lifetime, one should visit Lord Murugan's Aru Padai Veedugal, His Six Great Camps scattered across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, even beggar-devotees routinely make the circuit to these six (Tirupparankundram, Tiruchendur, Palani, Swami Malai, Tiruttani and Palamuthirsolai) temples and to many other famous temples sacred to Murugan and other great deities.

Nisargadatta Maharaj on Meditation

Nisargadatta Maharaj on Meditation : ...My teacher told me to hold on to the sense 'I am' tenaciously and not to swerve from it even for a moment. I did my best to follow his advice and in a comparatively short time I realized within myself the truth of his teaching. All I did was to remember his teaching, his face, his words constantly. This brought an end to the mind; in the stillness of the mind I saw myself as I am -- unbound.

I simply followed (my teacher's) instruction which was to focus the mind on pure being 'I am', and stay in it. I used to sit for hours together, with nothing but the 'I am' in my mind and soon peace and joy and a deep all-embracing love became my normal state. In it all disappeared -- myself, my Guru, the life I lived, the world around me. Only peace remained and unfathomable silence.

My Guru ordered me to attend to the sense 'I am' and to give attention to nothing else. I just obeyed. I did not follow any particular course of breathing, or meditation, or study of scriptures. Whatever happened, I would turn away my attention from it and remain with the sense 'I am', it may look too simple, even crude. My only reason for doing it was that my Guru told me so. Yet it worked! Obedience is a powerful solvent of all desires and fears...
