1) WayPath: The Waypath Project is "an attempt to network the weblog community,
connecting weblogs that share common themes, ideas, and topics." 2) historia : With this application, you don't write your story chronologically,
from beginning to end. You write your story one memory at a time. The
application takes care of inserting the memory on your 'memory map'
based on the date it took place 3) Sherwin-Williams | DIY | Interior | Decorating Tips | The Color Wheel: 4) TechTV | Top Five Tips for Online Community: Don't forget the content! 5) Eric Schmidt\'s lucky search - Tech News - CNET.com: How much better can search technology become? There are lots of ways. Let me give you an example: If you write a story and it goes up on the Web and gets onto Google in the next couple of days. Wouldn't you like it to be accessible right now?
We'd like Google to be real time. You make a change (to the Web) and
it goes up immediately.
6) www.oreilly.com -- In Memory of Frank Willison: Of all of us at O'Reilly, Frank is the one we'd most have imagined
growing old and grandfatherly, dispensing to successive generations
the wisdom, humor and caring that he shared with all of us. He is (I
use the present tense deliberately) one of those people who is an
inspiration to us all, someone who demonstrates convincingly how to
be a wonderful human being.
7) Start-up crusader keeps the Silicon Valley spirit: "Investors are looking for four qualities: hard-core science and
technology; a strong core of a management team with experience;
identifiable potential customers with money; and a believable
business model. In the past, if you were missing some of these
qualities, you could still get funded. Now, you have to have just
about everyone of them." 8) ( blogdex ): blogdex is a system built to harness the power of personal news,
amalgamating and organizing personal news content into one navigable
source, moving democratic media to the masses. at current, blogdex is
focused on the referential information provided by personal content,
namely using the timeliness of weblogs to find important and
interesting content on the web. 9) A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole: Dave : The Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is one of my
favorite books. It's very funny. Highly recommended. If you want to
understand what's going on don't think of others being such a
confederacy. Instead think of us all as dunce-like dancing puppets,
and you'll be closer to Great Hair. 10) DaveNet : Welcome Back Jean-Louis: He ain't no Dog Watching TV. When he barks, it's because there's
something to bark about. He gets it. He knows his ass depends on
engineers to make it all work. So he develops a trusting relationship
with developers. 11) Genoa G8 Unveiled: What did he die for ?
The cause is, amongst others, the injustices drawn from a system that
gives patent and copyright protection for periods of time that are
unreasonable. Resulting in situations like Pfizer having recouped all
research and production investments for one of the AIDS tri-therapy
drugs in 6 months - leaving them another 19.5 years of gouging while
African nations cannot afford the drug and see their populations
hardly hit. 12) Weblogging: Another Kind of Website: One day in mid-March 2000 Raymond Yee of the Interactive University
[1] thought it would be a good idea to buy and experiment with
Manila, a web server application capable of supporting literally
thousands of weblog websites. A bargain-priced education license was
purchased, and Catherine Yoes downloaded and installed it on a rather
ordinary NT server. Within weeks the IU experienced a revolutionary
change in thinking about what a website is, how they're hosted, what
they're used for, how they're built, and who owns them. A year and a
half later all of the IU's websites are being produced using weblog
technology, our team communications and sharing has been vitally
enhanced, a number of our team members are regularly writing on the
web, as are many of our University/K-12 projects and the K-12
teachers we work with. 13) Sheila: July 18, 2001 : Fresh today: our first strawberries!!!: 14) The Webby Awards: 2001 Winners: The risk takers. The innovators. The believers. The 5th Annual Webby Awards Winners.
From online galleries and up-to-the-second news sources, to
interplanetary exploration and cyber-communities, The Webby Awards
winners and nominees exemplify the kinds of sites that Internet users
visit daily for information and entertainment.
15) Run On Sentence: Pie Menus are a naturally efficient user interface technique:
directional selection of pie slice shaped targets. The cursor starts
out in the center of the pie, so all targets are large, nearby, and
in different directions. Fitts' Law explains the advantages of pie
menus, relating fast selection speed and low error rate to large
target size and small distance. Pie menus are easy for novice users,
who just follow the directions, and efficient for experienced users,
who can quickly "mouse ahead" once they know the way. 16) Broke Playboy Takes First Job at 85: "I thought I would die before the money ran out," Guinle said in
perfect English. "I lived too long but I had a lot of fun, and now
it's time to work."
17) w3future.com - article - higher order programming: Higher Order Programming is the ability to use functions as values.
So you can pass functions as arguments to other functions and
functions can be the return value of other functions. This style of
programming is mostly used in functional programming, but it can also
be very useful in 'regular' object oriented programming. A good
example of this is the Ruby Scripting Language, which combines all
the advantages of pure object oriented programming and higher order
programming. Sadly, Ruby is not supported by any browser, so it
cannot be used for websites. We are lucky however that Javascript is
available in every browser, and that Javascript is so flexible that
it can be extended to make higher order programming a helpful tool in
scripting webpages. 18) JD's Blog: When should blogs publish private e-mails?: I've been thinking the past couple of weeks about an issue I haven't
seen raised elsewhere. (If it has, enlighten me, please.) Here's the
question:
When should webloggers freely quote from private e-mails they've
received?
Given that everyone with a weblog is also a publisher, it's not just
a question of idle curiosity. I receive e-mails every day -- many in
response to postings in this weblog -- and most of them are from
total strangers. The common assumption, I think, is that e-mails are
meant to remain private, but if the information relayed is of
sufficient interest to others, it may be shared in a blog.
19) Time off should offer a time for reflection (7/08/2001): Reflection means asking ourselves some questions and
reassessing our fundamental assumptions: Are we doing the
right thing? How does what we do affect others? Do we care?
Most people are honorable. Most try to live decently and
productively. But how many of us truly reflect on the
deeper things?
20) Duncan Smeed: Duncan's Jotter: 2do 21) DON'T FENCE ME IN: Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in...... 22) Software602.com: FREE Alternative to MS OfficeŽ! 23) Services First, Technology Second, People Third: Microsoft doesn't care much about shared source or
Smart
Tags and we are wasting our time following their
marketing
trail. We need to focus on Microsoft's true goal, which is
to completely dominate the internet services market.
We
should pay attention to how they are building a services
infrastructure, not a technology infrastructure. We
should
figure out how they are going to use tools like Passport
and Microsoft Messenger to control our personal
information
and various internet transactions. 24) Macintosh Web Software on a Budget: via Alternatives to Microsoft |
