1) Metafilter | Comments on 9305: Don't spend their childhoods praising your daughters for being pretty
and your sons for being smart. If you can, avoid praising your
daughters in an excessive manner for passive behaviour - ie, when you
are telling your friends about how great your kids are, in front of
your kids, find something fabulous your daughter has done other than
sit quietly, play quietly, and keep her clothes neat. 2) Open Doors International: World Watch List: WWL Report January 2001: vision 'We believe that all doors are open and that God enables His
Body to go into all the world and preach the Gospel.' 3) ctnow.com: Service - By Way Of Bangalore : Betty Coulter is a typical 21-year-old college graduate from
Illinois. She wears bell-bottom jeans and is a faithful fan
of "Friends" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Or so says Betty, if asked, while taking calls from Americans.
4) BBC News | HEALTH | Eggs fertilised without sperm: MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, July 10, 2001: A new revolutionary technique
developed
by scientists in Australia has opened the doors for men who are
unable to
produce children because they have no sperm or germ cells. Using
other body
cells called somatic cells, the procedure eliminates one set of
chromosomes
that somatic cells usually contain. After this separation, the
remaining set
of chromosomes can combine with one set in a female egg cell.
Presently the
technology has successfully been put to the test in lab cultures
where mice
eggs have been fertilized. It remains to be seen if the resultant
embryos
will be viable. As with cloning, such developments are causing forcing
religions to explore new ethical issues. |
