into the blue yonder she travelled
on a rocket ship from earth
this daughter of india had dreamed
of conquering the universe from her birth
she was one of seven
who never did return
the whole world watched with sadness
when her silver ship did burn


she was trained to touch the stars
and fly off into space
now all we have is images
of her smiling face


her brilliant achievements
have made our nation proud
the career she had chosen
made her stand out from the crowd


we followed her career
every step along the way
never once did we dream
that it would end this way


a nation grieves for its daughter
a family sheds its tears
a flame has been extinguished
that should have burned many more years


yet now she is immortal
she has conquered time and space
up there among a million stars
you just might see her face
